Projekt "The Great White"

Rolf Eichenberger has been working on the project "The Great White" for some years now. The white is not only a problem in art, but also in philosophy. Black symbolizes the great nothing, white the totality of existence, God. In photograghy on the contrary white is the lack of emulsion, of pixels. White is nothing and can not be photographed. Photographers are afraid of the white, because white on the plate means overexposed. This was a challenge for Rolf Eichenberger. During his work he realized that the white in photography is always an illusion transmitted by other colours. Now his first pictures about the great white are available, realized on Greek island in the white city of Mykonos. Combined with the 1:1 principle emulsion on canvas they represent another primateship in history of modern fine art photography. Seit einigen Jahren arbeitet R.E. am grossen Weiss. Als erster Fotograf überhaupt thematisiert er das Problem des Weiss in der Fotografie und schafft damit in Kombination mit seinem revolutionären 1:1-Prinzip Emulsion auf Leinwand ein neues Primat von kunstgeschichtlicher Bedeutung. Tatsächlich ist das Weiss nicht nur ein künstlerisches, sondern auch ein philosophisches Problem. Während Schwarz das Nichts symbolisiert, stellt das Licht die Totalität der Existenz, des Seins dar. Wo Licht ist, muss Dunkelheit weichen. Wo etwas ist, kann nicht nichts sein. Das weisse Licht ist das totale Licht, ist alles, ist Gott. Das Weiss ist eine heilige Farbe, die einzige, die alle Farben enthält. In der Fotografie ist die Bedeutung zwar dieselbe, aber der Sachverhalt gerade umgekehrt. Das Weiss ist ein Nichts auf dem Film und ein Nichts auf dem Bildschirm, das Fehlen von Etwas, nämlich der Emulsion oder der Pixel. Folglich gibt es das Weiss in der Fotografie nicht. Das reine Weiss kann gar nicht fotografiert werden. Fotografen und Fotokünstler haben einen Horror vor dem Weiss in der Fotografie, weil bei Weiss nichts mehr auf der Platte ist, das Ganze überberlichtet ist. Dies war und ist die Herausforderung für R.E. In seiner Suche nach dem Weiss in der Realität und der Fotografie fand er heraus, dass das Weiss in der Fotografie immer durch andere Farben nur vorgetäuscht wird und eine Illusion bleibt. Eine faszinierende Aufgabe für einen Fotokünstler, diese Illusion zu vermitteln. Nun liegen seine ersten Werke vor, entstanden auf Mykonos in der weissen Stadt unter griechischer Sonne, von Licht durchflutet.
